Confirmation will require using credit card for internet shopping
The credit cards of all the banks in Turkiye will be closed to internet shopping on August 17, 2017. Customer approval will be required after August 17 for virtual shopping with a credit card.
With the decision taken by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency [BDDK], the banks will send off the online shopping feature when sending credit cards to their customers. The customer will be able to contact the bank customer service after purchasing the credit card and give the necessary approvals for using the internet.
For existing cards, the customer will need to approve the bank until August 17th. Cardholders who do not give consent until August 17 may request that the card be opened for e-commerce, either in writing or through the routing of some banks or by voice response system.
According to the latest figures in Turkiye, there are 176 million bank cards and credit cards.
Some banks have already begun to send informational messages to their customers. It is also stated that acceptance cannot be done by reduced routes such as text message or e-mail, and that a written or voice approval record is required. (ILKHA)
