Following the massacre of Syrian 9-month pregnant Emani Al Rahmun, 20, and her 10 month old son Halaf Al Rahmun in Kaynarca province of Sakarya, today a funeral ceremony was held in Sakarya.

President of Diyanet Mehmet Görmez performed the funeral prayer of the family who came to Turkiye a year ago, due to the civil war in their country.

Speaking here, Mehmet Görmez said, “The Prophet said, ‘hearts are mournful and sorrows, tears in eyes, but we only say things that will please our Lord.’”

Görmez continued, “We have not only performed a funeral prayer today, but at the same time we have witnessed a brutality that would embarrass all mankind in humanity. We have not performed the funeral of a mother who carries a 10-month-old son, a member of the Muhammad Ummah in her bosom today. At the same time, we have witnessed a brutality that will upset all of us.”

Stating that he has been here first, as a father and then as the head of Religious Affairs, Görmez said: “My words are what a father's sensitivity, emotionalism says. What happened to us that we became the cruelty of someone whom wounded from another cruelty? What happened to us that we became a murderer of a baby who took refuge in our mercy, took refuge to our conscience? We need to think about it all together. I call out to all humanity. Are the mother and her 10-month-old son refuge or our conscience? Are they refuge or our charity?” (ILKHA)
