Twenty-five years ago, there was an incident happened in the hot June weather which cold hearts. PKK elements raided on the mosque of Yolaç [Susa] village in Silvan [Farqin] town. After arrayed Muslim villagers in the yard of the mosque who were praying in the mosque, executed all by firing squad.

In this attack, 10 Muslim Kurds were martyred with the PKK's betrayal bullets. At a time when the PKK persecution in Kurdistan took the people under pressure, Susa village was targeted because it did not obey to PKK, did not think like them, and did not compromise on its Islamic identity.

The oppressed peasants in the Susa Mosque, where the PKK raided their troops by wearing military clothes, were confronted with a great conspiracy of the enemy of Islam. This charming village, five kilometers from the center of Silvan, will never forget that they lived on June 26th.

The Islamic studies results of the efforts of sensitive Muslims were spreading throughout the geography of Kurdistan. Seeing that the efforts of the Islamic studies in the region and the efforts of the society to preserve faith, the PKK started to pressurize the mosque and to organize the armed attacks on the Islamic personalities. As a result of these attacks, hundreds of Muslims martyred, while women widowed and children were orphaned.

The PKK did not accept any work in the region other than its own activities. For this reason, there were rocket, bombed and armed attacks on Islamic identities, homes and shops all over the region.

Islamic services have begun to be undermined by this dark organization. Just as the PKK was in the whole region, was also trying to make feel its own pressure on Susa. It wanted to pacify these Islamic activities with various tricks and threats. Unfortunately, they raided on Susa’s mosque on June 26, 1992, with this direction.

As always, the mosque community sat on Friday, June 26, and were reading Quran between the time of maghrib and isha.  While the mosque community was about to perform salaah, the wild-eyed blind people were busy surrounding around the mosque. After a while, the PKK raided on the mosque, told them that they are soldiers and asked the mosque community to get out of the mosque. The Islamic values and sacrilege are insulted. The hands of the mosque community were tied who were forced out of the mosque. And then the weapons started to fire. The environment around the mosque was like blood lake.

Hüseyin Çetinkaya 32, Said 30, Meki 21, Medeni 19 and Zeki Fidancı 15, Ahmet Kantar 40 and his son Emin Kantar 14, Adnan Kantar 19, Ali Uslu 28 and the mosque imam Haluk Ugas 21 were shot and murdered and five others were wounded.

This massacre is in fact a manifestation of PKK's hostility to Islam, its intolerance to the sanctity of Islam, its arrogance towards Islam's claims, and its hatred and hostility towards Muslims attached to Islam.

Second massacre attempt

After the massacre in June 1992, PKK had not stopped its attacks and continued to attack Muslims in rural and central areas. PKK, which its hostile to Islam has never been stopped, set up a different conspiracy against Susa when it came in 1998. In this date, a second massacre attempt was made with “military-guards cooperation”.

The soldier, demanded that the village be evacuated within a few days on pretext of another attack. The villagers then left their homes, and settled beside relatives in the nearby Silvan district center.

Residents of Susa after leaving the village, PKK, who cooperated with the state, placed in the village as a village guard with the help of the soldiers. Taking the state power, the PKK members who settled in the houses of the villagers and as a guards, confiscated everything of the village people. Resident of Susa decided to return to their villages after a week and a half past ten days, and when there was no attack on the village.

At the entrance of the village villagers faced a barrier with guards and PKK elements came from around villages having weapons, sticks, and axes in their hands. On top of this, the oppressed people of Susa, consisting of men and women, elderly-young people and children, who were trying to go to their homes, were taken under surveillance and started to be screened with long-barreled weapons by the guards cooperative with PKK.

The villagers, who described the PKK's second massacre attempt, where 10 people were wounded, never forgot the words of the village guards, ‘do not leave anybody alive.’ (Osman İçli – ILKHA)
