TurkStat [TÜIK] has announced road traffic accident statistics of the year 2016. According to this, as a result of traffic accidents 7 thousand 300 people were killed, 303 thousand 812 people were injured.

Turkiye's road network in 2016, a total of one million 182 thousand 491 traffic accidents have happened. 997 thousand 363 of these accidents were damaged property, 185 thousand 128 were fatal injury traffic accidents. 75 percent of the mortal injured traffic accidents that occurred during the year were in the settlement area and 25 percent of the traffic accidents occurred outside the settlement area.

As a result of 185 thousand 128 fatal injured traffic accidents in Turkiye in 2016, 3 thousand 493 people were in the scene and 3 thousand 807 injured people who taken to hospitals have lost their lives in 30 days. 48.3 percent of the deaths and 67.3 percent of the injuries were in the settlement area while 51.7 percent of the deaths and 32.7 percent of the injuries were out of settlement.

43.5 percent of those killed in traffic accidents were drivers

43.5 percent of the people who died in traffic accidents in the road network in 2016 were drivers, 33.1 percent were passengers and 23.4 percent were pedestrians. When the deaths and injuries in traffic accidents were examined by gender, it was seen that 77.9 percent of the deceased were male, 22.1 percent were female, 69.3 percent were injured male and 30.7 percent were female.

Among the faults that cause accidents, driver defects are first with 89.6 percent

In Turkiye, a total of 213,149 faults that caused fatal injured traffic accidents in 2016, which 89.6 percent is because of derivers, 8.7 percent of the pedestrians, 0.8 percent of the road, 0.5 percent of the vehicle and 0.4 per cent of the passenger-based source was seen.

295 thousand 727 vehicles involved in fatal injured traffic accident

52.1 percent of the total 295 thousand 727 vehicles involved in fatality injury traffic accidents in the highway network in 2016 are cars, 15.7 percent motorcycles, 15.7 percent van, 3.1 percent minibus, 2.9 percent trucks, 2.4 percent tow-truck, 2.3 percent buses, 1.1% tractors and 4.7% other vehicles.

Mortal injured accidents were at most in January and July

185 thousand 128 fatal wounded in Turkiye in 2016, according to the distribution of the month with a share of 10.7 percent of the July month with the highest rate and 5.9 percent share in the month of January. According to the days of the week, it was seen that the fatal of injured persons were realized at least on Thursday with a share of 13.6 and 15.1 percent on Friday.

67.6 percent of fatal injured accidents came into daytime
