Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu responded to the questions of journalists after meeting Montenegrin's capital Podgorica with his counterpart, Srdjan Darmanovic, has been evaluating the US decision to give heavy weapons to the YPG. Çavuşoğlu emphasized that every weapon given to YPG is a threat to Turkiye.

Saying that the attitude of Turkiye against YPG is well known by the US, Çavuşoğlu expressed that, “YPG and the PKK are the same, they are the terrorist organization. There is the YPG in the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF], also there are Arab forces. Tillerson told me recently that more than 60 percent of SDF consist from the Arabs, moderate Arabs. Especially in the operation of Raqqa, YPGs and Arabs have to be separated in the SDF. It is beneficial that Arab forces to be entered into Raqqa. Because Raqqa 99 percent is an Arab city. That’s why we have to plan the future of Syrian cities very carefully. I mean we need to have plans after Daesh. If we support Syria's border integrity, territorial integrity and the stability of Syria, especially if we care about the mistakes we have made in Iraq, we have to make a plan for the future of the cities in Syria. We need to take lessons and shouldn’t take the wrong steps here.”

Çavuşoğlu said, “YPG and PKK are both terrorist organizations, there is no difference. Only the name is different and every weapon that is handed to them is a threat to Turkiye. You are aware that the weapons given to YPG have been captured in the hands of PKK in Turkiye. The American administration knows our thoughts on these issues very well.”

Çavuşoğlu also noted that all these issues will be addressed at the meeting of President Erdoğan and US President Trump. (ILKHA)
