Great drama in the Mediterranean: 250 missing refugees

The United Nations [UN] said that about 250 people lost in two immigrants’ tragedy in the Mediterranean were worried that they were drowned.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] announced that 163 people on a boat reported to have sunk in Libyan off were missing. International Medical Corps, one of the organizations co-operating with UNHCR, said they were concerned that they had lost their lives. The organization also reported that 82 people were killed in an inflatable bottles sinking a few hours after sailed to the Mediterranean. Approximately 50 people were rescued from the boat departed from Libya which were carrying 132 people and were taken to the town of Pozzallo on the island of Sicily.

The maritime route between Italy and Libya is the most dangerous of immigrants who have left their homes in hopes of a new life. The journey of the refugees at the expense of their souls is often done with jerry-built boats or inflatable boats.

The number of people traveling on the dangerous waters of the Mediterranean is increasing, especially with the warming of the air. The Italian coastguard officials said last week that more than 6 thousand migrants in the region had been rescued and taken to the country during a 48-hour period covering only May 5-6.
