Three children of Syrian Azad-Nura couple and a child of a close relative were drowned in Hacıbey Brook in Şemdinli District of Hakkari Province Sayanlı Village while they were trying to cross Turkiye’s side.

Three children of Syrian Azad Suleiman and Nura Yusuf who were trying to come to Turkiye for the eye treatment of their daughter; Agit (12), Rojda (11) and Arsin (3) and relatives’ child Elend Abdurrahman (14) were drowned in the Hacıbey Brook.

The child, Elend Abdurrahman, who disappeared after drowned in the water, was found today while the bodies of three brothers who were taken out of the water yesterday were brought to Kızıltepe State Hospital morgue to be buried in Syria's Dirbesîye city.

Children drowned after the intervention of the soldiers

Families of children who spoke about the event said that after they passed through Hacibey Brook, the soldiers intervened and asked them to go back and that the children were drowned when they were passing through the river again.

The painful mother Nura Yusuf, who was mourning in front of the morgue told about what they have lived. Nura said that after crossing the children through the river, the soldiers on the border forced them to return, and that children were trapped in the water when helplessly passing water, and even a child pushed by a soldier into the water.

“Soldier did not allow them to pass the border”

Abdulaziz Bıro, a close relative of children who lost their lives, said: “After the children went to Turkiye’s side, the soldiers asked them to go back. Soldiers not allow them to cross the border. Even said, ‘you go back or we will kill you’. So the family scares and go back. The couple leaving the two children to one side and going to get the other. When they come back, the water took those two. Mother holding hands of a girl and while her back hit to the rock then her hands slips and she lose her daughter.”

“They came for the treatment of a child, they lost 3 children”

Bıro said that the family tried to bring their little girls to Turkiye for treatment and that they would come back after the treatment and it was wrong to force them back into the water, added, “The try to cross to the border was for treatment of their daughter’s eye. They came for the treatment of a child but they lost 3 children.”

After the painful event, the children's family and relatives crack up in front of the morgue, and the funerals were later taken to Syria's Dirbesîye city and buried.
