Mardin Artuklu University [MAU] Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Fasih Dinç made assessments on the education problem of the region to ILKHA, stated that the education system should be rebuilt for the training of qualified people by giving examples from the information production centers in the past.

According to the “Life in Provinces Index” research released by TURKSTAT [Turkish Statistical Institute] last year, almost all the provinces in Eastern and Southeastern Turkiye are in the worst order of education. Mardin Artuklu University [MAU] Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Fasih Dinc, suggestions for increasing the education success in the region.

Bearing in mind that there are many reasons and factors behind the fact that the education level in the region is in the back, Dinç explained that most important factors that the education given in the region is not based on an ideal.

“Teacher circulation affects negatively on the success of education”

Remarking that when we look at to the history of the region, we see many scientists and highbrow people have raised from the region, Dinç continued as, “In fact, our region is a very productive region. However, the causes of the loss of this productivity need to be investigated, and this need to be explored. One of the main reasons for the fall in the educational success of the region is the lack of qualified teachers. The majority of teachers who teach in the region are educators from outside. Teachers who come here, we see that they are in the process of going to their own land and region. The teacher circulates directly affecting educational achievement negatively. The student who does not receive basic education cannot show a serious presence at a later stage. Teacher factor is very important here. One of the main reasons for this factor is the teacher circulation, I think it should be minimized.”

“We did not raise qualified teachers”

Stating that qualified teachers have not been raised, Dinç expressed that the teachership have become a profession where economic concerns are front-line. Recalling that this sacred occupation had to be done on an ideal, Dinç expressed that idealism should not be pushed to the edge. Dinç said, “Teacher; it is an enlightened and an intellectual. Permanent information pumped and constantly renewing itself. It is the person who reflects the dynamism that it produces in itself to the schools and students. Unfortunately, we have not train qualified teachers in the region or all over Turkiye and we could not provide a healthy education because of this.”

“Students who suffer from mother tongue trouble are having problem of understanding”

Dinç recalled specific problems of the region apart from these problems and the simplest of the problems is the mother tongue problem, added that a student suffering from the mother tongue, and is having problem of understanding. Dinç said, “When a child in the region starts to study, the fact that Turkish is not the mother tongue, speaking of Kurdish or Arabic until that age is negatively reflected in the education process and faces a much later learning potential. Here the problem of understanding comes to the forefront. This means that mother tongue education can be talked back to again.”

Reminding the close of education institutions such as the madrassas that had been training on many ages in the past, Dinç said: “The traditional knowledge production centers that were brought from history have been closed down. The mechanism produced by the region's own language was excluded. But it was not successful here either. Because the historical and cultural ties have been cut off and only Turkish has become a means of acquiring knowledge, causing the level of education in the region to go backwards.”

“We need to build a new education system”

“We need to develop a new system after this hour,” said Dinç, who stated that a new education system should be built and added, “The current education system is no longer in business. We cannot educate the world people with the current education system. We need to rebuild a site that can raise a student who knows any of the eastern language and knows English or any of western languages.” (M. Salih Keskin - ILKHA)
