Minister Çavuşoğlu talked about the development in Syria. Responding to the question, “How can the tension between the US and Russia damage Syria?” Çavuşoğlu said, “I hope that there will be no tension between Russia and the US on Syria. I hope they meet in a common point. When we ask, both countries want Syria's border and territorial integrity. There is no point in fighting terrorist organizations like Daesh.”

Çavuşoğlu stated that there is no country as effective in fighting against Daesh as Turkiye in practice:

“Russia and the United States are now competing in Syria to prevent YPG from losing to each other. There is no benefit for Syria or region from such competition. We openly say our thoughts, there is such competition. We ask, ‘Why do you support YPG?’ They answer same ‘If we let it go then they will go to the other one’. It is not acceptable to compete of two super powers over the terrorist organization. It is a helplessness.”

“The safe zone project has become more requisite than ever today”

On the question of if there will be an immigration movement in Turkiye due to the confusion that has been taking place in Syria in recent days, Çavuşoğlu gave the following response:

“If the tension in Syria persists, there will certainly be immigration mobility, and now about three times the number of Syrian people living in our country have to live away from their homes in other cities in Syria. In fact, the safe zone project has become more important than ever. (Hamza Adiyaman - ILKHA)
