Scandal headscarf decision from European Court of Justice

The European Court of Justice, known as the highest law body of the European Union, has scratched a lawlessness. Accordingly, employers may prohibit employees from wearing headscarves.

In the reaction of the European Court of Justice, “Workplaces may ban workers from wearing clothing that is a religious symbol,” expressions took place.

A headscarved woman sued

A Belgian citizen Muslim woman named Samira Achibata started wearing headscarves three years after she started working as a receptionist at G4S Secure Solutions Company. The company stated that they did not allow the use of the headscarf in the workplace, and the Muslim woman was out of the business. The female employee filed a lawsuit in the Belgian Court against the company.

Many institutions in Belgium and Islamic organizations supported the Muslim woman's claim for compensation. The Belgian Court sent the file to the Court of Cassation.

The Court of Cassation also sent the case to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, known as the highest legal body of the European Union. (ILKHA)
