Green Crescent Society President Van Asst. Assoc. Dr. Rahmi Tekin evaluated the "Green Crescent Week", which was celebrated with different slogans in March 1-7 every year.

Green Crescent Society Van Branch President Asst. Assoc. Dr. Rahmi Tekin who was in charge of the "Green Crescent Week" celebrated with the slogan "Give a Promise for Healthy Life" said that technology addiction is as harmful as substance addiction and said that parents and teachers have important tasks to protect children from harmful habits.

"We are going to visit the bureaucrats in Van this year as we visited last year. Especially in schools, organizing conferences, panels and distributing Green Crescent’s brochures to inform students about the events that they have already done and what they will do in the coming days. We have organized a contest here last year. This year this competition is organized by Green Crescent center and ministry. We have organized contests, short videos, poetry and cartoon contests related to alcohol abuse in 3 categories in primary, secondary and high school students.”

“Our children cannot devote themselves away from dealing with computers and telephone”

Drawing attention to the dangers of increasing technology addiction in recent years, Tekin stated that children cannot devote themselves to other jobs by dealing with telephone and computer, saying “Green Crescent when was found in 1920, its target to fight against harmful habits, drugs and cigarettes. Fighting area enlarged as the time passed by. Technology addiction has been as harmful to opium and heroin as it has been harmful to the students and human being. It is becoming such an addiction that our children cannot devote themselves away from dealing with the computer and telephone. It has reached the age of primary school. Technological addiction is one of the important damages.”

Tekin made a call with parents and teachers, said that children should be kept away from computers, tablets and smartphones and said:

"Let's try to keep our students, our children, at home, away from computers, tablets and smartphones in such places as they are at school, they are as harmful to children as much as drugs and smoke. Parents and teachers should follow children very well. Unfortunately we can lose our children from not caring, in the form of ‘nothing will happens from one thing to another’.”

"Smoking has gone down to middle school students"

Stating that the use of cigarette has gone up to middle school students, Tekin continued his words as follows:

"Of course it has not reached a very grave dimension. No need to be pessimistic. Especially in the politics of the state, which has really taken a major step in the fight against drugs and harmful habits.” (Yılmaz Sönmez - ILKHA)
