8 putschist troopers who fled to Greece after the US-backed July 15 coup attempt were rejected for extradition to Turkiye. An arrest warrant was issued against the soldiers on the request of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement about the decision taken in Greece. In the statement, it was noted that the refusal of the Greek judge to the extradition request of the 8 putschist soldiers participating in the coup attempt on July 15, 2016 that the Greece, with this decision has regrettably put itself in a position of a country that provides shelter and protection to putschists.

“Our undertakings for the extradition and trial of the perpetrators, by using all legal instruments against this decision of the Greek judiciary, will continue.” Said in the statement and added as, “The implications on our bilateral relations, our cooperation against terrorism and other common cooperation in bilateral/multilateral matters of this decision, which we consider has been taken for political motives, will also be comprehensively evaluated.” (ILKHA)
