According to reports in the Moroccan media, the state officials reported that the manufacture, sale and import of the burqa were prohibited and that existing stocks had to be destroyed within 48 hours.

When the decision is met with reaction, it is stated that "reason of security" is put forward as an excuse for the prohibition.

Following the decision, the Interior Ministry sent an official letter to burka workshops and stores in Morocco's Tanca, Tatavin, Mertil, Sela, Tarevdanat and Meknes. In the article, the manufacture and sale of burqa were forbidden and demanded that the production and sale of this product be stopped.

The decision, while taking the reaction of the Islamic organizations in the country, it is said to be an initiative to ban niqap [veil] in the future. (ILKHA)
