Mutual agreement for a ceasefire in Syria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a mutual agreement was reached between the conflicting parties in Syria, as of 00:00 on December 30, 2016 in countrywide.

The written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Turkiye has been carrying out an intensive work for a long time in order to initiate negotiations between the regime and the opposition on the way to comprehensive political solution of the Syrian conflict, to end the violence and to make humanitarian aid.

As a result of these efforts, it was noted that a mutual agreement was reached among the conflicting parties in Syria at the time of 00:00 on December 30, 2016 across the country.

Welcomed is expressed in the statement that groups which are accepted as "terrorist organizations" by the UN Security Council left outside of the consensus.

The following statements were made in the statement: “Turkiye and the Russian Federation support this arrangement as a guarantor. The Parties undertake not to stop the armed attacks, including air strikes, nor to extend the zones under their control against each other with this arrangement. It is important that all sides respect this ceasefire. Turkiye and Russia are giving strong support to the situation of non-conflict, and they will follow the agreement."
