Aleppo refugee: We still afraid when we hear aircraft sound

Şaban family, who had to emigrate to Batman 6 months ago after the Assad regime and the Russian war planes intensified attacks in Aleppo, continued to be influenced psychologically by the war, and said that when they heard the sound of an airplane they were involuntary afraid.

Naci Şaban, who came to Batman 6 months ago with his wife and two children escaping from assaults in Aleppo, is trying to earn his life by working in a workplace with a little money on underwear with the help of a friend.

Naci Şaban has a hard time making a living with his salary, can pay for his expenses with help made by a philanthropist.

While in Aleppo, Şaban said that he was working as a general practitioner in a maternity hospital, and stated that his wife had read medicine but could not finish school because of the attacks.

Describing the atrocities and bitter events in Aleppo, Şaban said in sorrow that 400,000 people could not find food due to the siege of the Eastern Aleppo for months by the Syrian regime and that some people, even were eating animals such as cats and dogs, leafs of the trees.

"I came to Turkiye in the 4th month of 2016. I stayed on the Syrian border for about a month. The Turkish government, as a whole, helped the people of Syria in a serious manner. The Turkish government helped me to come here. From Antakya Cilvegözü we passed to Turkiye. We had a friend in Gaziantep, we came to his house. After that, we came to Batman via a friend."

"We have fallen into difficulty and have had to migrate from there"

"We were living around Aleppo. I read the medical faculty there. Then, without completing my master's degree, we were in a difficult situation when the Syrian incidents started. We were forced to move in our territory. Because of the conflict in our region, we started to live a lot of troubles, and then we had difficult situation and had to migrate from there. I work here in the fabric shop. Praise be to Allah, I live here comfortably, at least I feel safe."

"Sometimes, when we hear the sound of airplanes, we have fear."

Şaban pointed out that the psychological effect of the war is still on them, "We were afraid of hearing aircraft noise in Syria psychologically we are afraid of the sound of airplanes in here. My kids are still afraid when they hear the plane sound. Because of the war there, 'the plane shoots us,' they were psychologically affected. We lived in fear for nearly four months until we adapted here."

"People started to eat the flesh of animals such as cats and dogs, leafs of trees"

Şaban added that Aleppo has become the target of the Syrian regime because of being a commercial center, "The population of Aleppo is approximately 4 million. Aleppo is the economic capital of Syria. All commercial centers and industries are all in Aleppo. For this reason, the Syrian regime has had such initiatives to dominate Aleppo.  Syrian regime took Aleppo under siege for three months. 400,000 people were surrounded there. These 400 thousand people were completely deprived of all kinds of eating, drinking and other basic needs. The regime forces 400,000 people have left hungry and thirsty for the surrender of the East Aleppo which were under siege. This continued for 5 months. The regime left people there in such a difficult situation that even people there started to eat the flesh of animals such as cats and dogs and the leafs of trees."

"100-150 people were being killed daily"

Explaining that they were deprived of basic necessities after the attacks, Şaban emphasized that the price of one liter of milk in Aleppo is about 150 dollar, saying "This way the regime started to put its power, its influence. 100 to 150 people were killed daily by the regime. Warplanes were bombarded hundreds of times. Cluster bombs were used. One of this bomb was exploding three times. Cluster bombs led to a depth of 10 meters. All kinds of health needs stopped. The last pediatrician was killed there. No hospital left to serve in Aleppo."

Şaban said lastly that he would like to perform his profession as a doctor and he wanted government officials to help him. (ILKHA)
