64 years old retired teacher living in Diyarbakir,  Hanifi Turan is one of the witnesses experienced  two military coups on may 27,1960 – september 12,1980 and two coup attempts on May 20, 1969 - July 15, 2016.

Turan incurred heavy torture which was beyond imagination during military coup on September 12, 1980. He emphasized that coups open deep wounds on society.

Turan explained that soldiers usually  received support of foreign power sources when they attempt coup and they remain in the public mind with cruelty. I had seen 1960 coups when i was a child. There were only one radio station in my village and I remember that our elders heard coup news from this radio. Memorandum was given in March 12, 1970 which i also regard it as a military coup. We do not forget the persecution and oppression of the Commandos. Villagers were gathered in the schools and  they were tortured to bring weapons. They cursed to the belief of the villagers. I can say that Kurds faced the severity of the coups the most.

Stating that no one in Turkey suffered like Kurdish people and we need to be against the coups even if this is only reason.

Turan mentioned that coups opened deep wounds on humans will be remembered, the government was seized by military in 1980 coup. The majority of educated people in our region fled to europe, entered  prison or went to mountain. The law of coup does not end when coup is done. Coups open deep wounds on society. I did not sleep too much prison. I have not sleep in prison a total of 10 days but I stayed 94 days in custody. I went through torture in different periods of time.  Government is controlled by military after coups and there were no rule and they acts arbitrarly.

Turan explained what they lived during September 12 coups as following:

 “My children are made to unacceptable torture “

“I was caught in 1995. I have seen different kinds of torture. I saw Palestinian hanging. They peeled off my clothes until starkers then pour water on me and gave me electric. These things are inhumane. I can not say other things which is private. They brought my wife and childrens whose ages are between 8 to 12 next to me and started to torture them in front of me. My children are made to unacceptable torture. They gave electric to my children in front of my eyes. They fastened my children hands to each other and then they gave them electric, so all of my children shouted and jumped at once and then they said look how they are playing . They were smiling with it. It is nothing that i lived. I have not lost my children. Some people has killed and their children died.” said Turan. (ILKHA)

Turan pointed out that my children still can not get rid of the effect of torture even long years passed over it. He has sued to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) via his lawyer and state punished because of torture based on ECHR  result .

“They would declare martial law if they control government”

Turan added to his word thatThe formed military administration after coup play away from practice of justice and the conscience. There will not be freedom of travel. They closed the road they want and when they want. There are martial courts in the military government and they would declare martial law if they control government.  It is probably going to be the commander of martial law commander of the 7th Corps. in here. The decision they make is final and you do not have right to appeal.  You should know very clearly that there is neither justice nor conscience here. Everything is going to handle in proportion to view of who control us. If a military coup happened , they can investigate your home as many time as they want said Turan. (İLKHA)
