On the day, 11 people were killed in the bomb attack including students and teachers from Hurriyet Primary School as well as other women and elderly. 16 people were also injured in the brutal attack. Despite it being 21 years since the attack, the mysterious secret remains. As days went by, people suspect the JITEM (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism) being the cause of the attack but this was not proven. Those killed (martyrs) in the attack had Islamic identities in common.

Seyhmus Demir, a victim of the massacre who lost a leg explained the day of the attack to Ilke News Agency after 21 years. Demir stated that he had a small buffet just beside the bus stop and he continued, “The bus stop was very crowded at the time of the incident and it was the time the villagers came in or out the village from or to other nearby villagers. The school had also finished. Had the explosion occurred at the school finish time, hundreds of people would have died.”

“They put one of the bombs in the buffet” Demir added that one of the bombs was placed in a plastic bag and put in the buffet, “I had a buffet beside the bus stop that villagers came to from four different villages nearby.  May, 25 1995 was a very strange day. Before the explosion was a strong wind so there was dust everywhere and we couldn’t see eye to eye. Me and my two friends then went into the buffet. We heard a ticking clock and I asked my friend Hasan if his watch was not working properly. We obviously didn’t realise that it was the bomb that was set with a clock. As we were discussing this, suddenly the bomb exploded with a loud noise. Two cylinders in the buffet also exploded in succession. The buffet was fully destroyed and my body also burnt. I also lost my leg.”“My 12-year-old son was also martyred”

“11 people were martyred that day. The leader of the mini bus stop Huseyin and his son Mehmet Emin Olcay were also martyred. Huseyin was a very generous person. His salary would come from the mini buses monthly but despite this he would distribute his money to the poor. His only interest was in Islam and he was constantly fighting for Islam. This was the only reason of the bomb explosion. They knew the bus stop was open to public and that it would be crowded at the time of the incident. I lost my leg below my knee in the explosion and two other people were in the same situation as me. My 12-year-old son Ibrahim was also martyred on the day. He was a very smart child an he finished reading the Quran at the age of 8” said Demir.

Demir went on saying: "the state officials covered the incident up. No one contacted with us. No one had conducted an explanation to us. More than 100 people were detained at that time. Some of them jailed for nothing. They did so to cover the even up. They aimed to repress Muslims. They didn't launch a serious investigation nor anyone filed a lawsuit against someone nor were we informed about something. Judicial authorities didn't take even our statements.
