Born in 1978, Mehmet Salih Kaya moved to Charleroi 4 years ago. He moved in a pro-PKK neighborhood where he didn’t know much about the city. It was learned that Mehmet Salih Kaya was constantly threatened by PKK guys.

While other Kurdish citizens living in this neighborhood have also been intimated by Charleroi Kurdish Association to take place in their activities, Salih Kaya resisted participating in their activities and over that he was constantly threatened.

The neighborhood hosts mostly people from turkey’s Mardin province. Some pro-PKK men’s speech against Mehmet Uğurtay, the head of the village of Gera Cafer, who was also martyred by PKK on May 28, 2014, bothered Salih Kaya and objected their insulting discourse to him. After his rejections, pro-PKK men raised the severity of their threats.

Rejecting to go to PKK association, objecting their insults and ignoring their threats, while Mehmet Salih Kaya was going to his work as a builder, he met one of the members of Charleroi Kurdish Association, Abdulhakim Kaya who is constantly insulting him and deceased Mehmet Uğurtay. After Abdulhakim Kaya again started to insult Mehmet Uğurtay, Salih Kaya said to him ‘what do you want from a dead man?’ , ‘after a short term argument Salih Kaya left him there and walked to his car’ said Salih Kaya’s friend with him at time of the incident. The witness said: “Abdulhakim Kaya followed Salih and suddenly stabbed him in his heart. I ran towards Salih and I found him in blood and I shouted at Abdulhakim Kaya saying ‘why did you stab this man?’ then I lost myself and fainted.”

Mehmet Salih Kaya who was about to get on his car was martyred after he was stabbed three times in his heart.

Known as a religious man and having dissenting opinions against PKK, Mehmet Salih Kaya had three children and working as a builder in Belgium.

On the other hand the murderer Abdulhakim Kaya, residing at Avanue Mascaux neighborhood, 247 Marcinella street, was working on behalf of PKK leading human trafficking for 20,000 Euros.  And it is also reported that Abdulhakim Kaya was mediating between Kurds when a problem emerges among them and fines 30,000 Euros on behalf of PKK for each side, Abdulhakim Kaya was also known as beating up those who rejected to pay their contributions to PKK.

Salih Kaya’s body is now in the morgue of a private hospital and he is going to be interred in his village –Gera Cafer- in the next days. (ILKHA)
