In a meeting with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pezeshkian highlighted that Iran’s adherence to these frameworks is in accordance with a religious edict, or fatwa, which strictly prohibits the development of nuclear weapons.

President Pezeshkian noted that Iran has repeatedly shown goodwill and transparency in addressing concerns about its nuclear program and emphasized Iran’s readiness to cooperate with international bodies. He further stated that IAEA reports confirm Iran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly referred to as the Iran nuclear deal, from which the U.S. unilaterally withdrew in 2018.

Pezeshkian also addressed recent regional conflicts, expressing concern over the violence in Gaza and Lebanon attributed to actions by the Israeli government. He accused the regime of committing acts of aggression that target civilians, healthcare facilities, schools, and residential areas, actions that he stated are in violation of international law. He called for human rights advocates and international organizations to condemn such actions, stressing that silence on these issues is unacceptable.

Iran, he added, does not seek conflict but will respond decisively to any security threats. Pezeshkian concluded that Iran remains committed to promoting peace and security in the region.

In response, Grossi praised Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA and expressed optimism about building a productive relationship under Pezeshkian’s leadership. He remarked that robust collaboration between Iran and the IAEA is vital to counter any efforts that may attempt to undermine Iran’s nuclear program.

Grossi’s visit, which began Wednesday evening, was met with a warm welcome from Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). Both sides expressed hope for a constructive partnership moving forward. (ILKHA)
