Türkiye's Hürjet aircraft breaks sound barrier in successful test flight
Türkiye's domestically developed light attack aircraft, the Hürjet, successfully completed its first supersonic flight on Monday.
The aircraft took off from Mürted Air Base and soared above the capital city of Ankara.
Accompanied by an F-16 fighter jet, the Hürjet reached supersonic speeds, exceeding the speed of sound. The aircraft remained airborne for 38 minutes before making a controlled landing.
The Hürjet, a single-engine, tandem cockpit aircraft with advanced avionics, is expected to play a crucial role in the Turkish Air Forces Command's inventory.
The project was initiated by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in 2017 and has garnered international interest, with Spain reportedly considering a potential aircraft swap.
The Hürjet's successful supersonic flight marks a significant milestone for Türkiye's aerospace industry and demonstrates the country's growing capabilities in defense technology. (ILKHA)
