UN warns of humanitarian crisis in Gaza as israeli army blocks aid

In a statement released on Saturday, OCHA highlighted the severe shortage of essential supplies in Gaza, noting that "there is almost nothing left to distribute" as a result of the border closures. The closure has led to a rapid deterioration in the water and sanitation situation, forcing people to resort to using rubble and waste to meet basic sanitation needs.

The influx of displaced people into areas like Khan Younis and Deir al Balah has further strained already dwindling resources, according to OCHA's statement on Friday.

Furthermore, OCHA emphasized the suspension of vital distributions of special nutritional foods for vulnerable groups such as pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five in Rafah, while limited distributions continue in other areas.

The Food Security Cluster has reported that only five bakeries are operational in Gaza, with 11 ceasing operations due to limited supplies entering the territory since May 6.

The situation worsened on May 7 when the Israeli army occupied the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, halting the flow of aid into Gaza. Additionally, Jewish extremists have prevented aid from reaching Gaza through the West Bank and the Karm Abu Salem crossing, exacerbating the man-made famine in the Strip. (ILKHA)
