The explosion occurred in the central market of Azaz, located in Aleppo province near the Turkish border. The incident took place on a busy street within the opposition-controlled area.

According to initial reports, the bomb was concealed within a vehicle and detonated, causing fatalities and injuries. The victims included seven civilians, and an additional thirty individuals were wounded. Footage from the aftermath showed bodies lying on the ground, damaged buildings, and the remnants of a burning car.

Azaz, which is run by pro-Turkish militias, has been a strategic location in the ongoing Syrian civil war due to its proximity to the Turkish border and its value as a supply route. The town has witnessed previous attacks, including a car bombing outside the courthouse in 2017, which claimed over forty lives. The Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for that earlier attack.

The recent bombing occurred during Ramadan, as shoppers were preparing for Eid al-Fitr, the religious holiday marking the end of the Islamic fasting month. The tragedy underscores the ongoing violence and instability in the region. (ILKHA)
