Acting on intelligence reports, Coast Guard boats swiftly responded to a group of migrants reported to be in distress on life rafts off the coast of Izmir.

In a separate incident, it was reported that 71 irregular migrants, including women and children, were apprehended off the coasts of Muğla and Çanakkale.

Following the necessary procedures, the rescued irregular migrants were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.

The Mediterranean and Aegean Sea routes remain common paths for irregular migrants seeking to reach Europe, often leading to perilous journeys and dangerous confrontations.

Turkey, with its extensive coastline bordering the Aegean, plays a crucial role in intercepting these vessels and providing humanitarian assistance to those onboard. (ILKHA)
