The explosions took place near the mausoleum of Qassem Soleimani, the former leader of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who was assassinated by a US drone strike in Iraq in 2020.

The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, denouncing the "brutal and inhumane" attacks and offering its condolences to the Iranian government and people, especially the families of the victims.

The statement also reiterated Afghanistan's commitment to maintaining good relations with its neighbor and cooperating in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The Iranian authorities have declared a three-day mourning period and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The cause of the explosions is still under investigation, but some officials have suggested that they were the result of sabotage by foreign enemies.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far. (ILKHA)
