The victim was a relative of an MSF staff member, and MSF strongly condemned what they described as a deliberate attack on the convoy.
The convoy consisted of 137 people, including Palestinian MSF staff members and their families, with 65 children. Trapped near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza due to ongoing fighting since November 11, MSF had repeatedly called for their safe evacuation.
On Saturday morning, the convoy of five clearly marked MSF vehicles, including identification on the roofs, departed at 9:00 a.m. local time. Despite arranging for the movement, the convoy faced obstacles at a newly erected zionist army checkpoint, already overcrowded with civilians seeking to flee.
After hours of waiting, the zionist army prevented the convoy from crossing towards the south, firing shots to push it back to Gaza City. During the return journey, the convoy was deliberately attacked, resulting in the death of a family member of an MSF staff and the injury of another.
MSF urgently called for the evacuation of its staff, their families, and thousands of others trapped in northern Gaza due to the ongoing conflict and dire living conditions. The organization emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire to establish safe corridors for the evacuation of civilians in harm's way. (ILKHA)
