The alarm was raised when reports surfaced of a group of irregular migrants stranded in life rafts off the shores of Aydın and İzmir. Swiftly responding to the distress signals, Coast Guard vessels were dispatched to the region.
In a courageous rescue effort, the Turkish Coast Guard successfully retrieved 79 irregular migrants who had been forcibly pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
An additional 119 irregular migrants were detected off the coasts of Çeşme district in İzmir and Kuşadası district in Aydın, further highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by migrants seeking safer shores.
Following the rescue operations, all irregular migrants were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management, where necessary procedures and support will be provided as the authorities work to address this complex and pressing humanitarian issue.
