The accident occurred at around 7:28 p.m. local time (1628 GMT) when a passenger car carrying 12 people collided with a large truck on a local road near the village of Brodetske.
All 12 people in the car, including the driver, were killed in the collision. The truck driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken into custody and could face charges related to disregarding traffic safety regulations.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
This is the second fatal road accident in Ukraine in recent months. On May 4, twenty-six people were killed in a collision in the Rivne region of western Ukraine involving a bus, a minibus and a fuel truck that exploded after the crash.
The National Police of Ukraine has reported that there have been 1,314 road fatalities in the country in the first half of this year. This is a 10% increase from the same period last year.
The police are urging drivers to be more careful on the roads and to obey traffic regulations. (ILKHA)
