The previous record was set on July 13, with 1 million 058 thousand 962 megawatt hours.
The high electricity consumption was attributed to the hot weather in the country, which has been causing people to use more air conditioners. The highest electricity consumption was recorded at 3 p.m. local time, when the temperature was at its peak.
The Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) said that it was able to meet the demand for electricity without any problems. However, it warned that the high electricity consumption could put a strain on the power grid in the future.
TEIAS urged consumers to use electricity wisely and to avoid using appliances that consume a lot of power, such as air conditioners and ovens, during peak hours. (ILKHA)
