The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time in the 2800 block of 23rd Avenue South. The suspect, who has not been identified, fired multiple rounds at officers who were responding to a report of a disturbance.
One officer was killed and two others were critically injured. A civilian was also injured in the shooting, but their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The motive for the shooting is not yet known. The Fargo Police Department is investigating the incident and has scheduled a press conference for Saturday afternoon to provide more information.
Gregg Schildberger, the chief communications officer for the city of Fargo, urged patience and understanding from the community as the police department investigates the matter.
