The protests erupted in response to the tragic death of a 17-year-old teenager, Nahel Merzouk, of Algerian descent, who was fatally shot by a police officer in the suburb of Nanterre.
In an effort to restore calm and maintain order, approximately 45,000 gendarmes and police personnel were mobilized throughout the nation.
The situation appeared to be more stable on Sunday following the intense protests during the preceding nights.
The grandmother of the deceased teenager issued an emotional appeal to the protesters, urging them to refrain from violence and avoid damaging schools or buses.
The plea came as authorities and community leaders sought to prevent further escalation and find avenues for peaceful resolution. (ILKHA)
