The incident occurred shortly after a high school graduation ceremony had concluded.
During a news conference on Tuesday night, Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards provided updates on the victims. He confirmed that two victims, an 18-year-old male student and a 36-year-old man attending the graduation, had succumbed to their injuries. Additionally, five others sustained gunshot wounds, with one of them in critical condition. The non-life-threatening injuries were sustained by a 14-year-old male, a 32-year-old male, a 55-year-old male, and a 58-year-old male.
Authorities have taken a 19-year-old suspect into custody, who will face two charges of second-degree murder. Another individual previously detained was found not to be involved in the shooting.
