Officials have reported that a devastating avalanche in northern Pakistan near the China border has claimed the lives of at least ten people.

The tragic incident took place in the Astore district of the Gilgit-Baltistan region during the early hours of May 27.

The victims were identified as a family hailing from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, Khalid Khurshid, the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, promptly directed a search-and-rescue operation to be launched at the site. (ILKHA)
