The governor of the province, Mohamed El-Zamlout, confirmed the incident and stated that 17 ambulances were sent to the scene to transfer the victims to nearby hospitals and morgues. It is not clear what caused the accident.
According to local sources, the bus crashed into the truck, which was almost parked on the road. The bus was carrying 45 passengers who were traveling to Cairo.
