“At about 03: 55 a.m. on Wednesday, the israeli enemy launched an aerial act of aggression with a number of missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Lattakia, targeting the vicinity of Aleppo International Airport,” official news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying.
The source added that “the attack caused some material damages to the airport.”
The airport was being used to deliver aid to victims of the February 6 earthquakes that killed more than 56,000 people in Türkiye and Syria.
The closure of the airport could have severe humanitarian implications for people in Aleppo – one of the worst earthquake-impacted governorates in the country – and could also affect the wider vulnerable population who need humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations. (ILKHA)
