The humanitarian aid campaign that was initiated by Hope Caravan Foundation, European Orphan Hand, Orphans Foundation, and IHO EBRAR to aid people who were affected by the deadly earthquake in southern Türkiye and northern Syria continues in full swing.
After sending a large number of humanitarian aid supplies to earthquake-hit areas in Türkiye, the international help organizations shipped a truck of humanitarian supplies to northern Syria, where the earthquake has so far killed more than 4,000 people.
“We want to help our people who were hit by the earthquake”
“After the deadly earthquake in the region 5 days ago, we, as Hope Caravan Foundation, European Orphan Hand, Orphans Foundation, and IHO EBRAR, are trying to help people who have been affected. So far, we have sent 13 humanitarian aid trucks to earthquake-stricken areas in Türkiye. Now we are sending a truck of basic foodstuffs to people in northern Syria,” İsmet Ökmen, a volunteer for Hope Caravan Foundation, told Ilke News Agency.
On Monday, a violent earthquake with multiple aftershocks struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria.
In total there have been at least 18,991 deaths across 10 provinces and an additional 75,523 people were injured in Türkiye.
At least 3,868 people were killed and 7,285 were injured in Syria.
At least 13.5 million people and 4 million buildings were affected. Thousands were trapped under rubble when buildings collapsed.
Leaders of many countries offered condolences to Turkey and Syria.
By Thursday, three days after the earthquake, 95 countries and 16 international organizations offered aid to Turkey, and 6,479 rescue personnel from 56 countries were deployed to Turkey.
On the other hand, outreach to Syria was “less enthusiastic”, owing to the political situation in Syria. (ILKHA)
