Participants of the first session of the Turkish NSC this year will discuss several domestic and international issues, including Finland's and Sweden's NATO membership bids.
The meeting will also focus on the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the situation in Iraq and Syria.
A written statement will be released following the meeting.
The National Security Council (MGK) is composed of the President, as the chair, vice presidents, ministers of Justice, National Defense, the Interior and Foreign Affairs, the Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, commanders of the Turkish Land, Naval, and Air Forces.
If the agenda deems necessary, pertinent ministers and individuals may also be invited to the council meetings to provide information and comment on the featured topics.
Like the national security councils of other countries, the MGK develops the national security policy. (ILKHA)
