Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in at the 8 March Women's Park in Batman province to protest the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The event, hosted by Mustafa Tufan, started with the recitation from the Holy Quran recited by Ömer Akgül.
The officials of HÜDA PAR, representatives of the political parties, NGOs, Islamic scholars, and opinion leaders attended the event, which is being held with the slogan “Protect Holy Quran”.
The protesters were holding banners that read "Sweden, do not make a mistake, do not make us lose our patience”, “We are the guardians of the Holy Quran”, “Stop the burning of the Holy Quran" and “Stop insulting Muslims”, and “Take off your hand from Holy Quran”
The protesters are frequently chanting slogans in Turkish and Kurdish against the desecration of the Holy Quran at the event, where Özlem Agency singers will also take the stage to perform Islamic songs for the audience.
Mehmet Beşir Şimşek, the head of the Quranic Generation Platform will deliver an opening speech at the event.
The deputy chairman of HÜDA PAR, Serkan Ramanlı, will also speak at the event, which will conclude with a prayer by Mullah Mehmet Ali Altun, a member of ITTIHADUL ULEMA (the Union of Islamic Scholars and Madrasahs). (ILKHA)
