At least 19 people were injured and those affected belong to 6,113 families in 16 districts, DMC said, adding that 5,639 houses in various parts of the country have been damaged.

“General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers,” Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology warned.

Cyclone Mandous emerged from the Bay of Bengal on Friday, and made its landfall in Mamallapuram, 30 km from Chennai, resulting in heavy rainfall and squally winds in parts of coastal Tamil Nadu. (ILKHA)
