The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said that the Western Wall tunnel uprising emphasized that Jerusalem is the core of the freedom struggle against the zionist occupation and stressed Palestinians will continue defending it until liberation.

In a press release on the twenty-sixth anniversary of the Western Wall tunnel uprising, the movement confirmed that this incident is an unforgettable milestone in the history of the Palestinian people.

On Sept 25, 1996, Palestinians across Palestine protested against the zionist occupation forces’ opening of a tunnel underneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque Western Wall. The protest lasted for six months and resulted in the zionist occupation forces killing of dozens of defenseless Palestinians and injuring a thousand and six hundred others.

The Hamas movement called on the Arab and Islamic nations, along with the free peoples of the world, to assume responsibility for defending the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Muslims’ first Qibla, and support the Palestinian resistance against the zionist occupation in the face of the malicious schemes to divide it spatially and temporally.

The movement urged the Palestinian people to keep resisting the israeli occupation and confront the colonial settlers’ daily incursions into it. (ILKHA)
