The three vehicles collided on motion and bursted into flames, said said Dauda Biu, acting national head of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

“Out of the 31 victims, eight persons comprising of seven males and one female sustained various degrees of injuries, while 19 others were burnt beyond recognition,” Biu said during a visit to the accident scene on Yangoji-Gwagwalada Road.

He also noted that investigation had showed that the main causes of the crash were speed limit violation and wrongful overtaking which eventually resulted in loss of control.

Road accidents are very common on Nigeria’s poorly maintained roads due largely to speeding and disregard for traffic rules. (ILKHA)
