It has been 55 years since the Israeli occupation "annexed" the eastern part of Jerusalem on 27 June 1967 in a blatant violation of all international laws and conventions.

In light of international silence and inability to put an end to its escalating crimes against Jerusalem and its Palestinian population and Muslim and Christian holy sites, the Israeli occupation continues its aggression against the holy city through killings, detentions, home demolitions, land grabs, Judaization, and illegal settlement activity.

Despite all desperate attempts by the Israeli occupation to alter Jerusalem's identity and charter, the Palestinian people have foiled its schemes targeting the holy city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On the 55th anniversary of the Israeli occupation, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas salute Palestinian citizens of Jerusalem and state the following:

First, Jerusalem, with the Al-Aqsa Mosque lying at its heart, is part and parcel of historic Palestine. The Israeli occupation has no sovereignty or legitimacy over both of them; none of its attempts to wipe out Jerusalem's Palestinian identity and its long-standing Arab and Islamic features will succeed.

Second, Jerusalem will remain the indivisible, eternal capital of Palestine and a matter of consensus for the Arab and Muslim world. The Palestinian people will continue defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque with comprehensive resistance until liberation and return.

Third, all attempts to integrate the Israeli occupation into the region through normalization, alliances, and partnerships, are unacceptable as the Israeli occupation takes advantage of such moves to intensify its aggression against the Palestinian people and their lands and holy sites. This requires all Arab states that have normalized ties with the Israeli occupation to reconsider their relationship with it, stand with the Palestinian cause, and endorse the Palestinians' rights to liberation and self-determination.

Fourth, we call on the Arab and Muslim leaders, governments, parties, and organizations to take a mas political, diplomatic, media, and humanitarian action in order to mobilize Arab and Muslim support for the Palestinian people and their struggle to restore their rights and liberate their homeland and holy sites.

Fifth, we urge the international community to assume its responsibility and to act on putting an end to the Israeli occupation's crimes and its settler-colonial and Judaization policies targeting Jerusalem and its Muslim and Christian holy sites. (ILKHA)
