The 70-year-old Syrian woman, Laila Muhammad, who had been forcibly displaced from Syria to Turkey, was attacked by a Turkish criminal while she was sitting in a park.
“The person who kicked disabled and elderly woman was identified as a result of the meticulous work of our police and was taken into custody by our prosecutor's office,” Governor Davut Gül said on Twitter.
“Deputy Governor visited her house. These crimes won't go unpunished,” he added.
The vice-president of the ruling AK party and spokesperson Ömer Çelik shared a post regarding the incident, which sparked outrage across Turkey.
“Violence against 70-year-old Leyla Muhammed has deeply saddened us all. Judicial and administrative units carry out due legal process against the culprit Şakir Çakır. All conscientious ppl of our nation stand by the victim mother,” Çelik said. (ILKHA)
