More than 3.91 million voters are eligible to elect 128 parliamentarians, with candidates vying for 128 seats divided among 11 religious groups.

People began casting their ballots shortly after the polls opened as thousands of security forces were deployed to secure and protect ballots and voting systems.

The country has for several years been the subject of chronic political instability as well as a serious economic crisis aggravated by the explosions that hit the port of Beirut in 2020 and faced large-scale demonstrations against the political class. (ILKHA)
