Domestic trips with one or more than one overnights, increased by 48.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached to 10 million 706 thousand trips. In this quarter, domestic visitors made 80 million 378 thousand overnights. Average number of overnights was 7.5.
Annually, domestic trips increased by 23.2% compared to the previous year and reached to 52 million 774 thousand. In this year, total number of overnights decreased by 2.2% compared to the previous year and declined to 458 million 872 thousand. Average number of overnights was 8.7 in 2021.
Domestic visitors spent 11 billion 497 million 945 thousand TL
In this quarter, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 98.7% compared to the same quarter of previous year and reached to 11 billion 497 million 945 thousand TL. In this quarter, while 93.4% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 10 billion 744 million 441 thousand TL, 6.6% of it was package tour expenditures with 753 million 504 thousand TL. The average expenditure per trip was 1 074 TL.
In this year, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 80.2% compared to the previous year and reached to 58 billion 104 million 752 thousand TL. While 91.2% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 53 billion 9 million 281 thousand TL, 8.8% of it was package tour expenditures with 5 billion 95 million 471 thousand TL. The average expenditure per trip was 1 101 TL in 2021.
When the distribution of expenditure types in total travel expenditures is analyzed in this quarter, it is seen that the expenditure types which have the highest shares were eating and drinking expenditures with 32.6%, transportation expenditures with 31.5% and accommodation expenditures with 10.4%. According to rate of change of trip expenditures compared to same quarter of the previous year, it was observed that there were increases of 82.8% in eating and drinking expenditures, 90.6% in transportation expenditures and 146.8% in accommodation expenditures.
On a yearly basis, when the distribution of expenditure types in total travel expenditures are analyzed, it is seen that the expenditure types which have the highest shares were eating and drinking expenditures with 31.4%, transportation expenditures with 26.3% and accommodation expenditures with 14%. According to rate of change of trip expenditures compared to the same year of the previous year, it was observed that there were increases of 54.7% in eating and drinking expenditures, 62.6% in transportation expenditures and 118.9% in accommodation expenditures.
Primary purpose of trip was "visiting relatives" with 61.6%
The secondary purpose of trip was "travel, leisure, vacation" with 23.6% and the third was "health" with 7%.
Annually, while "visiting relatives" was the primary purpose of trip with 58.8%, the secondary purpose of trip was "travel, leisure, vacation" with 30.2% and the third was "health" with 5%.
Domestic visitors stayed mostly at house of friend or relative
In this quarter, according to number of overnights by type of accommodation, domestic visitors stayed mostly at "house of friend or relative" with 51 million 628 thousand overnights. While "own house" took second place with 17 million 532 thousand overnights, "hotel" took third place with 5 million 270 thousand overnights.
Annually, domestic visitors stayed mostly at "house of friend or relative" with 305 million 542 thousand overnights. "Own house" took second place with 84 million 814 thousand overnights and "hotel" took third place with 34 million 218 thousand overnights. (ILKHA)
