Five UN workers were taken in Abyan late Friday while returning to Aden, after a field mission, Geekie confirmed.
The abductors have put forth their demands and talks for the workers' release are ongoing, the UN official said.
The Yemeni government confirmed the incident and identified the abducted UN staff as four of its nationals and one foreign national, who worked with the UN Department of Security and Safety.
It added that the government was working to secure their release.
The Yemeni Civil War, which began in late 2014, has killed tens of thousands of people and caused a dire humanitarian crisis in the country. (ILKHA)
