Today’s meeting in the Council of Representatives was then turned into a deliberative session and there will be no vote to elect the new president due to the lack of a quorum, an Iraqi official said.

Only 58 out of 329 deputies attended the session, according to the media department of the parliament.

Iraq's constitution requires that at least two-thirds of MPs are in Parliament to pass legislation and elect a new president.

Moqtada al-Sadr’s movement, the Kurdish Democratic Party, and Al-Siyada Alliance said they would boycott the session because of competing demands on presidential candidates. (ILKHA)
