Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun made a statement regarding the “Hello Türkiye” campaign launched by the Directorate of Communications to promote the use of “Türkiye” as the country’s national and international name on international platforms more effectively.

Director of Communications Altun highlighted that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a circular on December 21, 2021, requiring the use of “Türkiye” instead of “Turkey” in correspondence with other states, international institutions and organizations, as well as export products, and he added that the circular clearly and explicitly instructed the use of “Türkiye” rather than “Turkey” on international platforms.

Director of Communications Altun stated that they continued their efforts in this direction since then, conducting a series of activities to promote the phrase “Türkiye” on international platforms.

Director of Communications Altun explained the details of the “Hello Türkiye” campaign launched as part of these efforts, adding, “In fact, influential social media users from many countries around the world are promoting Türkiye on the international platform by saying 'Hello Türkiye' in their own language. Thus, they support our effort. On the other hand, we worked on a short film project as well.”

Tourists visiting Türkiye will say “Hello Türkiye” too

Director of Communications said that tourists visiting Türkiye would say “Hello Türkiye” in their own languages and accents in various parts of the country, thereby contributing to the promotion of the phrase Türkiye on the international platform.

Director of Communications Altun said: “We believe that it is significant to use the phrase 'Türkiye' in the international arena in order to further strengthen our country's identity, brand and reputation.” Our President has issued a very clear and explicit directive, and, in line with this directive, we are carrying out this communication campaign in accordance with Türkiye's vision for the new era.”

Emphasizing that Türkiye has turned into a great and strong country, Director of Communications Altun said: “Türkiye is no longer merely a consumer country; it is also a producer country. Türkiye is not a country to which definitions are attributed; it is a country that produces definitions. As a result, we believe it is critical to be referred to as Türkiye throughout this process. The change of 'Made in Turkey' to 'Made in Türkiye' back then was also a step we took within this context.”

“We are happy for the interest shown in the campaign thus far”

Noting that the phrase “Türkiye” would be used in correspondence and communications with foreign institutions and organizations on international platforms, Director of Communications said:

“In this context, our institutions' names in other languages will also bear the phrase Türkiye instead of Turkey. In this way, we will continue to conduct public diplomacy in accordance with our President's vision. We hope that the campaign we have launched today will contribute to this strategy as well, and we appreciate the interest shown in the campaign thus far. Additionally, we think it is valuable that influencers and influential social media users from many regions of the globe are also involved in this campaign. I would like to call on our public institutions and organisations, universities, non-governmental organisations, and authors to use the phrase 'Türkiye' instead of 'Turkey' in their international texts and correspondence with various actors in the international arena and contribute to the ongoing communication campaign aimed at enhancing Türkiye's image in accordance with our President's perspective.” (ILKHA)
