İbrahim Halil Göv and Abdullah Zengin were arrested on fraudulent evidence fabricated by the Turkish deep state in the 1990s.
After about thirty years of imprisonment, Göv and Zengin were released from Diyarbakır D-Type Prison on probation.
The families of Abdullah Zengin and İbrahim Halil Göv spoke to Ilke News Agency about the happiness they felt following the release of their sons.
Mullah Hamdin Zengin
“Thanks to Allah my son has been released. We went through a lot of trouble due to the wrongful imprisonment of my son. He spent more than 29 years in prison although he did not commit any crimes. All he had done was to read and teach the Holy in the mosque. My son remained in prisons in Diyarbakır, Bingöl, Gaziantep, Adana and Adıyaman. We were always on the road to visit him once a month or every 15 days. We had a lot of difficulties during his imprisonment,” said Mullah Hamdin Zengin, Abdullah’s father.
Mehmet Göv
Mehmet Göv, İbrahim Halil’s father, noted that his son was arrested and then convicted despite his innocence.
“His only crime was to read and teach the Holy Quran in mosques. I went through a lot of trouble while visiting my son in prisons for about 30 years,” Mehmet Göv said.
Abdullah Zengin and İbrahim Halil Göv, who have been in prison for about 30 years, were released from Diyarbakır D-Type Prison on Sunday.
The families and friends gathered outside the prison to welcome Zengin and Göv, who were arrested in the Ceylanpınar district of Turkey’s Şanlıurfa province in 1992.
The state security court, the Turkish court which was established to try cases involving crimes against the security of the state, handed unjustly down life sentences to Zengin and Göv on fabricated charges in a trial falling short of international standards. (ILKHA)
