Addressing a joint press conference with Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman al-Burhan, Erdoğan said: “We are determined to ease the difficult process by standing by the brotherly people and state of Sudan and thus to maintain the relations in solidarity.”
“Sudan is a brotherly country with which Turkey enjoys long-standing cultural and humanitarian ties”
Expressing his belief that Sovereignty Council Chairman al-Burhan’s historic visit to Turkey heralds a new era in the bilateral relations, Erdoğan described Sudan as a brotherly country with which Turkey enjoys long-standing cultural and humanitarian ties. “We stood by Sudan with all our means and capabilities even during times when it faced sanctions in an unjust manner. I visited Sudan twice, first as the prime minster in 2006 and then as the president in 2017. These were the first-ever official visits by Turkey to Sudan at the levels of prime minister and president.”
“We follow Sudan’s recent successes with pleasure”
Noting that Sovereignty Council Chairman al-Burhan assumed a tough responsibility during a critical period, Erdoğan stated: “We are determined to ease the difficult process by standing by the brotherly people and state of Sudan and thus to maintain the relations in solidarity. In the meantime, Sudan has achieved important successes under the leadership of my brother al-Burhan and the transitional government in line with the commitments made in the constitutional declaration. We follow with pleasure the recent successes of Sudan in commercial and financial areas. We believe that Sudan, which suffered serious problems for long years, will attain the place it deserves. The Sudanese people possess the necessary strength and wisdom as well as the spirit of solidarity to overcome the hardships they encounter.”
Sudan-Ethiopia tension
Stressing that on the agenda of their meeting were also regional issues along with the bilateral relations, Erdoğan said: “We also shared with al-Burhan our concerns regarding the recent tension between Sudan and Ethiopia, two brotherly and neighboring countries. I highlighted the importance of solving this issue through mutual dialogue and consensus. Turkey will continue to stand by Sudan in the period ahead. Turkey-Sudan solidarity will further grow through the efforts of my brother al-Burhan as well. I hope our talks will lead to auspicious developments for both of our countries. I thank my treasured brother al-Burhan and his delegation for this historic visit.”
Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman al-Burhan: “Turkey has always stood by Sudan”
Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman al-Burhan, for his part, drew attention to the long-standing and historical ties between Turkey and Sudan and said it was their duty to preserve and enhance these ties. “Turkey has always stood by Sudan. Turkey has been standing by Sudan particularly during the process of transformation and changes Sudan has been going through. I believe that we will overcome this process as well with the support of such sincere friends of ours as Turkey and its leader.” (ILKHA)
