Coronavirus: Iran reports 5,502 new cases, 119 deaths in the last 24 hours

Iran has reported 119 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 54,693, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Sunday.

After 5,502 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 1,200,465 in the country.

There are at least 5,212 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 951,860 patients have been discharged from hospital after being cured.

So far, more than 7,407,400 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 1,766,356 with 80,790,407 cases and more than 57,000,789 recoveries. (ILKHA)
